Introduction
One day, one treasure: Luang Prabang’s temples, palaces and river views in a single graceful tour.
The tour weaves through the UNESCO-listed old quarter — Wat Xieng Thong’s gilded roofs, the Royal Palace Museum and the sacred summit of Mount Phousi. Riverside cafés and the night market round out a perfect day in Laos’s most beautiful town.
Your full day city tour begins after breakfast, with a visit to the Royal Palace Museum, which hosts a range of interesting artifacts. After that, we climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a panoramic view of the city and the Mekong River.
We then enjoy a short-guided tour seeing the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture. The next stop is Ock Pop Tock, meaning East Meets West, where you can learn about the traditional weaving in Laos.
We then visit Wat Visoun, dating back to 1513 during the reign of King Wisunarat (Visoun), this is Luang Prabang’s oldest temple and was once home to the Prabang Buddhas. From there we stroll around to visit Wat Aham, which was once the residence of Sangkharat, the supreme head of Lao Buddhism.
We continue our visit to the Arts and Ethnology Centre to learn about Laos’ many ethnic cultures.
ate afternoon, we will transfer to visit Wat Siphouthabaht to admire the sunset, the really peaceful place to catch the last beauty of the day.
The tour ends after a visit to the famous Night Market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textiles made by local and hilltribe people surrounding Luang Prabang.
