The cave was found by the royal British cave exploring team. Its name is Son Doong and it belongs to the Phong Nha-Ke Bang grotto system in the center of the province.
Howard Limbert, team representative, said that the cave was first discovered by a local in 1991 who forgot the location.
Limbert’s team believes this is the world’s largest cave with the height in some places reaching over 200 meters and the width over 150 meters. He said that the inside of the cave was similar to other caves in Phong Nha–Ke Bang and that it had a fast underground river, which is larger than the river in Phong Nha cave.
According to the team’s research, the area’s cave system reaches to 60 kilometers
