Chiang Mai is one of Thailand ‘s most walk-able city’s. Most of the sights of the 700 year old former capital of the kingdom of Lanna are within the two kilometers squared city walls. Start your walking trip in the old city area at the Three Kings Monument; go to Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Center , The former Provincial Hall of Chiang Mai is a beautiful old building with high architectural value, built in 1924. Continue to Chedi Luang Temple , where the great five hundred-year-old chedi called “Phra Chedi Luang” is situated. Pun Tao Temple , The temple’s most interesting feature is its teak wooden chapel for lay people to pray in and was one of four monastic temples serving the royal temple next door.
Then walking along beautiful road to eastern city gate Thapae Gate . The eastern main entrance gate to the old walled city, it is still today the main center of Chiang Mai’s public city activities and festivals.
Continue to eastern side of old city to Warorote Market, the biggest local Market in Chiang Mai which selling everything from clothes and textiles to fruit, herbs, flowers, vegetables, insect and even fireworks.
Then walking across the Mae Ping River to visit the area of “Wat Gate” which is the unique Gate Garaam Temple , there are old, solid timber built houses many of which are well over 100 years old.
